Not sure where to start with houseplants? You're not alone. Choosing the right plants for your space can feel overwhelming, especially when you're staring at dozens of options and wondering which ones will actually survive in your living space. That's exactly why Planted. offers plant consultation services in Dubuque, IA and surrounding communities throughout the Tri-State area.
Whether you're a first-time plant parent with minimal experience and high hopes of finding the perfect plant companion for your space, or you're ready to transform your home or office into a full blown indoor jungle, our plant consultations take the guesswork out of the equation. We assess your space, your lifestyle, your lighting, and your experience level—then match you with plants that will genuinely thrive under your care.
Think of us as plant matchmakers. We've helped hundreds of Dubuque residents find their perfect green companions, and we'd love to help you too.

What Is a Plant Consultation?
Want to add some leafy plants to your home or office but aren't sure where to begin? Let us help you come up with a plan. A plant consultation is a personalized service where one of our plant experts works directly with you to curate the best plants for your home, office, or indoor space.
Unlike walking into a big box store and hoping for the best, a consultation ensures every plant you bring home is set up for success. We take the time to understand your specific situation—your lighting conditions, your schedule, your experience level, and your aesthetic goals.
During your consultation, we'll talk through questions like:
- How much natural light does your space get?
- Do you travel frequently?
- Do you have pets or kids to consider?
- What's your watering style—hands-on or more hands-off?
- Are you looking for statement plants, have desired aesthetic goals or grow styles that appeal to you, or perhaps just want some low-maintenance options?
We take all of this into account and build a plan tailored specifically to you. No generic advice, no one-size-fits-all recommendations. Just honest guidance from people who genuinely love helping plants and people find one another.

What Happens After Your Consultation?
A consultation isn't just a conversation—it's a roadmap. After we meet, you'll walk away with a clear plan, including specific plant recommendations, placement guidance, and care instructions tailored to your situation.
From there, you can shop for your recommended plants right at Planted. in downtown Dubuque at 245 W. 1st Street. We'll help you pick out the healthiest specimens and set you up with the right pots and soil.
Need help with potting? Our potting bar and repotting services make it easy. We offer both DIY and assisted repotting at our on-site potting bar, with custom soil blends to match your plant's specific needs. Repotting fees are roughly $1 per inch diameter of the pot, and if you purchase both the plant and pot from us, potting is on the house.
And if questions come up down the road—your plant looks droopy, you notice some yellowing leaves, or you're just not sure if you're doing it right—our plant doctor diagnostics service is always here to help. Bring your plant into the shop or send us photos for virtual diagnosis through Instagram, Facebook, our website chat, email, or phone.
Why Choose Planted. for Plant Consultations in Dubuque?
We're not a big box store. We're a locally owned houseplant shop with a certified Horticulture background that's been part of the Dubuque community since November 2020. Our team genuinely cares about helping you succeed with plants, not just selling you something and sending you on your way.
Our approach is judgment-free. We've heard every plant horror story in the book, and we're not here to make you feel bad about past failures. We're here to help you move forward with plants that actually work for your life.
We also know this area. We understand the lighting challenges that come with living in the Midwest Dubuque, the dry air from Iowa winters, and the specific conditions that affect plant care in the Tri-State region. That local knowledge makes a real difference in our recommendations.
Plus, when you work with us, you get ongoing support. Our relationship doesn't end when the consultation does. We offer full-service plant care for homes and offices, plant doctor diagnostics when something goes wrong, and we're always available to answer questions as your plant collection grows.
